SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engine building, in particular to systems and methods for powering internal combustion engines using alternative fuels. The method for powering an internal combustion engine consists in implementing a gas-diesel operating mode and includes supplying a part of natural gas mixed with fuel to the engine, supplying air to the combustion chamber of the engine to obtain a homogeneous fuel-air mixture, and the engine is started and idled on diesel fuel without the supply of natural gas, and in operating modes diesel fuel and natural gas are supplied to the fuel system of the engine on the low pressure line into the circulation mixer in proportions that provide the sustained required engine power.

EFFECT: improving the energy, economic and environmental performance of internal combustion engines (ICE), as well as saving liquid petroleum products.
