FIELD: filters.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to filter press intended for separation of solid components from liquid components of suspension. Press filter (1) comprises side beams (4) and filter plates (6) oriented at right angles to the longitudinal direction of said side beams, wherein filter plates are made with possibility of movement along said side beams, wherein the filter press has fixed end (5) located at or near one end of the side beams, movable head (8) configured to move said filter plates along the side beams, and pressing device (26) configured to apply a closing pressure to said filter plates to press them together. Pressing device (26) comprises at least one electrically driven actuator (27) configured to create an axial force applied to the filter plates by means of movable head (8), note here that actuator (27) comprises planetary screw assembly (31) with electric drive unit to actuate moving head in displacement of filtration plates. Electric drive unit is separate from the above electrically driven actuator. Invention also relates to a method of separating solid components from liquid components of a suspension.
