FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing styrene by liquid-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol-containing raw material in the presence of an acid catalyst and additives in a column-type rectifier reactor consisting of a still and vapor zone. Method is characterized by that the methylphenylcarbinol-containing material used is a fraction of methylphenylcarbinol together with wastes from the step of vapor-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol of the process of combined production of propylene oxide and styrene containing high-boiling ethers and complex aromatic esters, still zone of the reactor-rectifier is equipped with a thin-film evaporator, wherein the raw material together with the catalyst and additives are fed to the upper distribution part of the film evaporator at temperature of 190–220 °C, and under the evaporator, into the layer of the reaction mass of the cube, "sharp" water vapor, vapors of the reaction products obtained in the still zone are introduced, fed into the vapor zone of the rectifier reactor equipped with deminsters, from which the reaction products with temperature of 92–95 °C are fed into the cooling system, and then into the reaction products separation system.
EFFECT: invention reduces specific consumption of methylphenylcarbinol raw material per 1 ton of styrene per methylphenylcarbinol from 1,32 to 0,83 t/t of styrene or 1,6 times.
