FIELD: catalysts.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the petrochemical and chemical industries and is intended for producing styrene by vapour-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol. Proposed is a method for activating a catalyst based on gamma-aluminium oxide for producing styrene by means of vapour-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol and a method for application thereof. The catalyst is activated by means of hydrothermal treatment at a temperature of 520 to 600°C for 4 to 20 hours in the presence of vapour.
EFFECT: increase in the inter-regeneration period of operation of the catalyst, increase in the service cycle of the catalyst with increased selectivity of the process.
