FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method can be used in petrochemical and other branches of chemical industry. In order to obtain styrene, vapor-phase dehydration of methylphenylcarbinol-containing material is carried out on a catalyst containing aluminum oxide in the presence of water vapor. Before dehydration, the raw material is pre-evaporated at temperature of 190–200 °C in a stream of water vapor overheated to 400–550 °C with further purification in additionally installed adsorber, containing spent 4,000–8,000 hours in same process catalyst and located above it aluminosilicate-containing adsorbent. Adsorbent has composition, wt%: aluminum oxide 5–30, iron (II) oxide 0.1–5.0, magnesium oxide 0.1–5.0, calcium oxide 0.1–5.0, potassium oxide 0.1–3.0, sodium oxide 0.1–3.0, titanium (IV) oxide 0.1–3.0, silicon oxide – the rest. Weight content of spent catalyst from total load makes 80–90 %. After purification raw material is fed into dehydration reactor.
EFFECT: longer service life of the catalyst, high quality of the raw material fed for dehydration, while maintaining high selectivity of the process.
