SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a printed substrate and a method of printing on a substrate. Method of printing on a substrate includes steps of applying an aqueous dispersion of a polymer on a substrate to form a liquid aqueous layer of polymer, wherein the aqueous dispersion of the polymer includes water and a polymer, wherein the polymer is one or more polymers selected from the group consisting of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, a ternary copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and ethylene, and an alkyd resin, printing with ink on a liquid aqueous polymer layer to form a printed aqueous polymer layer, wherein the ink includes a colouring agent, and thereby the printed aqueous polymer layer contains a colouring substance, and drying the printed aqueous polymer layer to convert the printed aqueous polymer layer from a liquid to a solid state. Also disclosed is a printed substrate comprising a printed polymer layer on a substrate, wherein the printed polymer layer includes a colouring agent and a polymer, where the polymer is selected from one or more copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, and a ternary copolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and ethylene.
