FIELD: control and measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to flaw detection of cables during their production. Group of inventions comprises a surface inspection scanner for detecting defects on the surface of the cable, comprises a measuring part and an analytical part, wherein the measuring part contains proximity sensors for measuring the distance, and the cable is located between the sensors so that the beams of the sensors are directed to the outer surface of the cable, to the control sections located along the cable circumference, by the cable outer surface length in the cable movement direction to form the measurement data, and the analytical part contains the measurement data receiver, the measurement data processor, which provides formation of data on detected defects and continuous three-dimensional map of elevation of external surface of cable, wherein the analytical part comprises a neural network trained to detect surface defects of the cable and output data on the detected surface defects, as well as a device and a method for detecting surface defects of a cable using a scanner.
