SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing hydrophobic porous aluminum oxide. Method involves preparing a suspension containing an aluminum oxide compound, wherein the suspension has a pH equal to or greater than 7; adding an organic composition to the suspension to form an acid-modified suspension, wherein the acid-modified suspension has pH from 3 to less than 7; hydrothermal aging of the acid-modified suspension to form a hydrothermally aged suspension; and drying the hydrothermally aged suspension. Aluminum oxide compound is selected from aluminum hydroxide oxide (AlOOH), boehmite or pseudoboehmite. Organic composition contains carboxylic acids with alkyl hydrocarbon chains having less than 10 carbon atoms in the chain.

EFFECT: improved hydrophobicity and dispersibility of porous aluminum oxide.
