SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of varnishes, printing inks, inks, polymer materials, glass, ceramic products and compositions of decorative cosmetics. Disclosed is a metallic lustrous pigment based on coated aluminum plates. Aluminum plates have a monolithic structure and are surrounded by at least one coating B of iron (III) oxide, wherein the weight fraction of iron (III) oxide in the coated aluminum plates is at least 65 wt. %. Between the surface of the aluminum plates and the coating B there is an additional coating A made of at least one low-refractive metal oxide, which has a refraction index not exceeding 1.8, selected from a group consisting of SiO2, B2O3, MnO2, MgO, GeO2 and Al2O3. Aluminum plates have thickness in range of 1 nm to 30 nm, coating B has thickness in range of 100 nm to 300 nm. Also disclosed is a version of a metallic lustrous pigment, a method of producing said pigments and use of the pigment.
EFFECT: group of inventions enables to obtain metallic lustrous pigments with high opacity and low flammability.
