SUBSTANCE: method relates to the field of biotechnology, whereby the growth of the sixth radicle is stimulated during germination by modifying the activity of the jasmonate hormonal system. For this purpose, the seeds are treated with jasmonates or synthetic analogues thereof retaining the capacity for inducing jasmonate-dependent responses in plants, or the endogenous content of jasmonates is modified by genetically modifying the plants. Exogenous treatment with jasmonates or derivatives thereof is conducted by spraying or soaking the seeds prior to planting, or by watering the soil using solutions containing jasmonates or derivatives thereof, or by adding said compounds to a synthetic medium, a germination medium. In order to modify the endogenous level of jasmonates, functional genes of the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway from any vegetative objects, or modified sequences of genes encoding a functional protein capable of transformations characteristic of the reactions of the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway, are introduced into plants. Expression of the transferred gene is controlled by the constitutive or induced promoters. The plants are genetically modified using the biolistic method for vector delivery or genome editing systems. Genome editing is used to edit nucleotide sequences of enzyme genes of the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway or sequences of native promoters of genes of the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway of the plant, providing a change in the level of endogenous expression of enzyme genes of the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway.
