FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: invention represents a method for determining numerical values of animal exterior. Exterior parameters are measured to assess animal body build. Disclosed is a method of determining exterior parameters by processing images obtained using a depth sensor — StructureSensor 3D. Depth sensor is a camera which is attached to the tablet device and enables to capture a three-dimensional image of objects. In addition to the camera itself, the device uses an infrared laser, a sensor and a special illumination. Infrared laser applies a dot pattern invisible to the human eye on objects within 3.5–10 meters, while the infrared sensor detects pattern distortions. Thus, a depth map is created for the scene and objects inside it. Pattern is supplemented with an image from a conventional camera, as a result of which three-dimensional models of objects or the surrounding space are obtained. Software for the depth sensor enables to obtain information on the distance between objects, the distance from the camera to the object and to determine any linear size of the object itself in real time.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase accuracy of measurement and to reduce total time of determination of external parameters of farm animals.
