SUBSTANCE: invention relates to digital video compression and decompression, and more specifically to encoding and decoding of intra-prediction mode of a current block using intra-prediction mode information of an adjacent block. Disclosed is a video decoding method, in which it is determined whether to use a list of most probable modes (MPM), based on coding information of the current block, is obtained, from a bit stream, intra prediction mode index information indicating one of the intra prediction modes of candidates included in the MPM list, and determining the intra prediction mode of the current block using the obtained intra prediction mode index information.

EFFECT: reduced amount of information required for presentation of intra-prediction modes.
