FIELD: computer technology.

SUBSTANCE: method is disclosed for determining the fact of visiting a point of interest (hereinafter – POI) located at some place by a user using a wireless device containing a geolocation module and having a wireless device identifier, performed on a server containing a processor and a long-term memory related to the processor, in which commands are stored, performed by the processor for the implementation of the method. The method includes: receiving a wireless device identifier on the server at the stage of use; receiving geolocation tracking data generated by the wireless device, on the server at the stage of use, based on the wireless device identifier; forming a staying profile of the user’s wireless device, based on geolocation tracking data, indicating the presence of the user’s wireless device in the predetermined vicinity of the place of POI point during a predetermined time interval; entering by the server the staying profile of the user’s wireless device as input data of the stage of use to a machine learning algorithm (hereinafter – MLA) trained based on a training dataset, while a training object from the training dataset is formed by: determination of a training set of sequential tracked and timestamp-equipped geolocations of a training wireless device related to a training user, based on an identifier of the training wireless device; determination, based on the training sequential set of tracked geolocations, of a training staying profile of the training wireless device, indicating the presence of the training wireless device of the user in the predetermined vicinity of the place of POI point during a predetermined training time interval; and using a set of heuristic rules to the training sequential set of tracked geolocations and a user profile related to the training user in order to form a training mark indicating, whether the training user visited the place of POI point, with the formation of a training object containing the training staying profile and the training mark; receiving by the server at the stage of use indication on user’s visiting POI point from MLA algorithm as output data of the stage of use based on the staying profile.

EFFECT: providing the determination of facts of visiting the point of interest by users using wireless devices.
