SUBSTANCE: claimed group of inventions relates to systems and a method for enabling and disabling device location sharing. Environmental signals are used to determine, when it should be suggested to the user to allow location sharing on his/her computer devices. These environmental signals can include the current user’s location that is a location for the user or a location that is marked as the known location, such as a concert venue, stadium or park. Environmental signals can also include one or several user’s friends who are next to the user. If the user selects to allow location sharing in response to the suggestion, the user’s location can be shared with some or all of his/her friends or only with friends who were defined as being next to the user. After a certain amount of time or changes in environmental signals, location sharing can be automatically disabled for the user.
