SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to environmental technologies, colloidal chemistry and nanotechnology. An emulsifying dispersion and a method for cleaning the water surface from oil and petroleum products are proposed. The emulsifying dispersion contains a stable aqueous dispersion of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) particles in the form of a hydrosol with a concentration of 3.5 -14.0 g/l. NCC particles have a rod shape with an acetylated surface of 13.5 acetate groups per 100 cellulose units, a zeta potential from -36 to -40 mV, a crystallinity index of 0.88, a length size from 135 nm to 205 nm and a cross section from 6 nm to 10 nm. Emulsifying dispersion is applied to the contaminated water surface and ultrasonic dispersion is carried out, ensuring the biodegradation of oil.

EFFECT: inventions make it possible to obtain a stable emulsifying dispersion that ensures the elimination of spills of crude oil in salt and fresh water, obtaining a stable emulsion of oil or petroleum products in water, while effective oxidation of oil and petroleum products is observed, including with the use of hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms, without secondary damage to the environment.
