SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image processing tools. A first flag is encoded. The first method is executed when the first flag has the first value. The second method is executed when the first flag is a second value, wherein the first value is different from the second value. The initial value of the first component of the motion vector of the current image block is binarised by M bits. The first method includes stages of applying an N-bit right shift to the original value, wherein (M-N) is equal to the preset value, and N and M are positive integers; setting the initial value shifted to the right as the storage value of the first component of the motion vector. The second method includes stages of applying the limiting operation to the initial value, wherein the limited component of the motion vector is limited between -2^M-N-1 and 2^M-N-1-1, setting the limited initial value as the storage value of the first component of the motion vector. The subsequent image block is encoded based on the storage value.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of image encoding due to the reduction in the size of memory used to store time motion vectors (MV) with the ensured required accuracy of MV.
