FIELD: image processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for image processing. The first flag is encoded. The first method is executed when the first flag has the first value. The second method is performed when the first flag is the second value, and the first value is different from the second value. The initial value of the first component of the motion vector of the current image block is binarized to M bits. The first method comprises the steps of applying a right shift of N bits to the original value, where (M-N) is equal to a predetermined value and N and M are positive integers; setting a right-shifted initial value as a storage value of the first motion vector component. The second method comprises the steps of applying a constraint operation to the initial value, wherein the constrained motion vector component is constrained between -2M-N-1 and 2M-N-1-1, setting the constrained reference value as the storage value of the first motion vector component. A subsequent image block is encoded based on the storage value.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of image coding by reducing the amount of memory used to store temporal motion vectors (MV) while ensuring the required accuracy of MV.
