SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of underground storage of natural gas. The method for creating UGS in an aquifer geological structure includes drilling a calculated number of wells in the arch area of ​​the aquifer and subsequent injection of natural gas. First, hypsometric marks of the roof of the productive thickness of the opened formation are determined for each injection and production well. The specific volumes of gas per each well are determined in accordance with the design volume of the storage. A ranked table of wells is compiled according to the degree of decrease in the values ​​of hypsometric marks of the roof, indicating the specific volumes of gas injected into each well and providing in total the design volume of the gas storage. Then gas is sequentially pumped into the well, the roof of which has the highest hypsometric marks, and into at least one well, the hypsometric marks of the roof of which are lower than in the previous one. At the same time, injection into the next one starts only when gas from the first well appears in its bottomhole zone.

EFFECT: efficiency of UGS operation is increased by creating a single gas volume of the storage dry zone and removing the buffer volume of formation water from its interwell space.
