FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for burning lime mud in an extended rotary lime mud kiln. The method includes introducing non-condensable gases (NCGs) into an extended rotary kiln having a burner side on the first side of the kiln chamber and a feed side on the second side of the kiln chamber located remotely from the first side, wherein the NCG is introduced at the injection site downstream of the burner side to the feed side in the furnace chamber, wherein the temperature of the furnace chamber at the injection site is in the range of 212-2200°F, and measuring the first temperature at the first location upstream of the injection site, measuring a second temperature at a second location downstream of the insertion site, comparing the first temperature with the second temperature to calculate the temperature difference, adding refrigerant along with the NCG at the insertion site, when the temperature difference is less than 100°F.
EFFECT: reduction of ring formation in the middle of the kiln in an elongated rotary kiln such as a lime kiln due to fluctuations in temperature at the burner side and emissions of NOx resulting from the combustion of oxygen and oxygen compounds in an elongated rotary kiln.
