SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines of cars. The method for protecting a diesel particulate filter (DPF) includes the following stages. At stage (S10), an engine controller switch control signal is received. At stage (S11), it is determined whether the engine controller needs to be disabled or not, based the switch control signal. If it does, the temperature of the DPF is obtained at stage (S12). At stage (S13), it is determined whether the temperature is below a preset temperature. If it is, the switch control signal is directed to the engine controller at stage (S14) in order to stop the engine controller. Disclosed is an apparatus for protecting the DPF.
EFFECT: delayed time when operation of the engine controller stops, and improved protection of the DPF.
