SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Method is developed for detection of leaks in particulate filter (102). Operation of engine (10) is controlled based on signals from solid particle sensor (106). SP sensor is located downstream of the particulate filter in the engine outlet channel (48). Indication is made on degradation of the particulate filter in the engine exhaust channel in accordance with the operating characteristics of the turbine sensor during one driving cycle and multiple driving cycles. Working characteristics of the SP sensor comprise tracking the current of the SP sensor. Significant leakage in the particulate filter is indicated if the SP sensor current exceeds a threshold current value for one driving cycle and for a plurality of driving cycles. Engine power is reduced to first level. Disclosed is a method of detecting modes of failure of a particulate filter and a system for a vehicle.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reducing emissions of harmful substances due to high accuracy and rate of detecting leaks in the particulate filter.
