FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed are methods and systems for reducing wear of electrodes of a soot content sensor in an aggressive chemical medium which occurs as a result of desulfatation of a nitrogen oxide accumulator installed upstream of a soot content sensor. According to one example, the method can provide, in response to the sulfur oxide load exceeding the threshold value, before initiating desulfatation of the HOA, enabling operation of a soot content sensor in a predesulfatation mode, in which a negative electrode is connected for a short period of time to a positive electrode, wherein the positive electrode is disconnected from the positive electrode. Nevertheless, during desulfatation, during which H2S is released as a by-product, both electrodes can be opened, i.e. not connected to the positive electrode or to the weight, thereby reducing the possibility of sensor wear.
EFFECT: disclosed are methods of operating a soot content sensor and an engine exhaust system.
