FIELD: fiber manufacturing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrostatic bearings containing a fiber support channel for supporting optical fiber during optical fiber extraction, and a method for manufacturing optical fiber. A hydrostatic bearing is described for guiding optical fibers during the manufacturing process. The hydrostatic bearing provides a fluid flow for lifting and guiding optical fiber along a technological route. Optical fiber is in a fiber groove and is subjected to the action of lifting force from fluid flowing from the inner radial position of the fiber groove away from optical fiber to the outer radial position of the fiber groove. The lifting force of fluid acting on optical fiber is described by a convex force profile, according to which the lifting force acting on optical fiber is increased, when optical fiber is moved deeper to the groove. Different designs of hydrostatic bearings for achieving the convex force profile are described.
EFFECT: better stability of positioning optical fiber in a fiber groove is achieved, and contact of optical fiber with solid surfaces of a hydrostatic bearing is prevented.
