SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely otorhinolaryngology, and can be used to diagnose benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the posterior semicircular canal. The patient, who is in a sitting position, turns the head 45 degrees to the left or right, fixes it in this position and tilts it to the knees. In the presence of a positional nystagmus with a rotatory component, BPPV of the posterior semicircular canal is diagnosed. The positional maneuver is repeated by turning the patient’s head in the opposite direction. In the presence of a positional nystagmus with a rotatory component, when turning the head to the right side, BPPV of the left posterior semicircular canal is diagnosed, and in the presence of a positional nystagmus with a rotatory component, when turning the head to the left side, BPPV of the right posterior semicircular canal is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method provides an expansion of the patient population on account of patients with spinal pathology, after injuries and operations on various parts of the spine, as well as patients with Arnold-Chiari syndrome.
