SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus for laying two similar rolls in a rolling cage. Apparatus for laying is an integral part of the rolling mill stand or can be placed relative to the rolling mill stand so that the rolls can be transferred from the rolling mill stand to the apparatus for laying or vice versa. The apparatus for laying has at least one measuring system used to record the temperatures and/or diameters of the rolls in the direction of the axes of the rolls, at least in predetermined recording positions, separately and independently.
EFFECT: temperatures of the rolls, wear and diameter thereof are determined as a result with local allowance.
