SUBSTANCE: invention relates to space technology and can be used to accelerate the deorbit of a spacecraft that has exhausted its resource. A method for accelerating the deorbiting of a spacecraft consists in braking a bundle of a spacecraft and a large-mesh network of carbon nanotubes with inflatable balloons filled with gas in highly rarefied layers of the Earth's atmosphere due to aerodynamic deceleration of inflatable balloons filled with gas, and the interaction of electrically conductive filaments of a coarse-mesh networks of carbon nanotubes with the Earth's magnetic field.

EFFECT: rate of deorbiting of a spacecraft that has completed its active operation into the dense layers of the atmosphere increases.
