SUBSTANCE: container for a device for preparing a beverage or a device for preparing a food product is proposed. In this case, the container for accommodating material of a beverage or a food product contains a code encoding information about preparation, in particular information about preparation by the device for preparing a beverage or the device for preparing a food product of a beverage or a food product of material of a beverage or a food product, contained in the container. The code contains a support part and an information part. The support part contains at least one support configuration determining a virtual support line. The information part contains a virtual encoding line crossing the virtual support line at a virtual intersection point, and a sequence of information blocks, containing at least two information blocks aligned at a distance from each other along the virtual encoding line to encode a sequence of operations of information about preparation. Each information block of the sequence of information blocks encodes an operation of the sequence of operations. In this case, relative position of each information block in the sequence of information blocks encodes the character of the encoded operation. At the same time, the distance between the information block and the virtual intersection point, and/or the distance between the information block and another information block of the sequence of information blocks or of another sequence of information blocks encodes a parameter value for performing the encoded operation.
