METHOD FOR ULTRASONIC EXAMINATION OF THE RECTUS EXTRAOCULAR MUSCLES Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B8/10

Abstract RU 2774584 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely, to ophthalmology and functional diagnostics, and can be used in ultrasonic examination of the rectus extraocular muscles. For this purpose, the rectus extraocular muscles undergo ultrasonic examination with B-scanning. Each muscle is therein examined with the orientation of the scanning plane along the muscle fibres with the direction of sight of the patient towards the examined muscle and the location of the ultrasound sensor in the opposite quadrant of the orbit. For the medial and lateral rectus muscles, the above is done parallel to the ciliary margin of the eyelids, and for the superior and inferior rectus muscles - perpendicular to the superior and inferior orbital wall. The maximum diameter of the acoustic slice of the muscle is measured perpendicular to the muscle fibres.

EFFECT: method improves the visualisation of the rectus extraocular muscles, raises the accuracy of measurement of the thickness and assessment of the anatomical and topographic relationships thereof with the eye, bone walls, and other orbital structures, and in a pathological process, determines the volume of involvement and the nature of change in the muscle tissue, allowing for adequate selection of the treatment tactics.
