FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the presence and operability of a particulate filter (18) of an internal combustion engine with controlled ignition, producing exhaust gases with variable flow, while said exhaust gases pass through the specified particulate filter (18) between the upstream zone (20) and downstream zone (22) of said particulate filter (18). According to the invention, for each sampling moment, on the basis of the selected values of the flow rate and pressure drop of the gases, the value of the time integral of the mass flow and the value of the presence criterion corresponding to the sum of the selected values of the pressure drop are calculated; and when said value of the time integral of the mass flow reaches or exceeds the upper threshold value, the presence criterion value is compared with the presence threshold value to thereby determine the presence and operation of the particulate filter (18).
