FIELD: metal processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of a zircon-based powder for use as additives in the production of heat-resistant products, in the manufacture of matrix materials of heat-resistant pigments, in the manufacture of adsorbent material for the purification of aqueous solutions, when using zirconium and silicon as a source in the production of zirconium carbide and silicide powders by electrochemical method. The method includes the production of sol using zirconium carbonate as a zirconium–containing compound, and tetraethoxysilane as a silicon-containing compound, and the subsequent production of a gel containing silicon and zirconium, drying the gel to obtain a mixture of powders of amorphous compounds ZrO2 and SiO2, pressing them and subsequent sintering at a temperature of 900°C. At the same time, a sintering additive based on divalent copper oxide in an amount not exceeding 1%, wt. %, is added to the mixture of powders of amorphous compounds ZrO2 and SiO2.

EFFECT: one hundred percent zircon yield is provided when using a non-toxic mineralizer.
