FIELD: ceramic materials, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods used in preparing the parent composition powders for refractory ceramic materials designated for making chemically resistant high-temperature articles, in particular, the composition material "mullite-zirconium oxide". The parent mixture of mullite sol is prepared by mixing hydrolyzed tetraethoxysilane with aluminum chloride. Tetragonal zirconium oxide is added to the mullite parent mixture as an aqueous suspension of micropowder with particles size 50-200 nm and gelation if carried out by treatment with ammonia solution. Then the prepared intermediate product is dried followed by preparing a powder by its thermal treatment. The content of zirconium oxide in the prepared composition material is 1-25 wt.-%. The gelation process is carried out for 10 min, not above, and thermal treatment is carried out at temperature 900-1100°C for 1.5-2 h. Invention provides uniform distribution of separate small inclusions of tetragonal zirconium oxide in mullite matrix, reduced tendency to recrystallization at high temperatures and enhancing mechanical properties of the material.
