FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy using plasma, namely to the production of titanium powder. Titanium powder is obtained from titanium tetrachloride, while taking two identical solid electrodes from a series: aluminum, magnesium, sodium, calcium, made in the form of a rod or wire, fix them in the mechanisms of horizontal movement and enter through the side holes into a sealed discharge chamber, previously pumped nitrogen, and pumped into it titanium tetrachloride. Different poles of the power source are connected to the electrodes, a constant smoothed or alternating voltage is applied to them. According to a variant of the invention, different poles of the power source are connected to the electrodes, voltage pulses are applied to them with a duration of not more than 10-3 seconds. Then, using the mechanisms of horizontal movement, the ends bring the electrodes closer to each other until the moment the arc or spark discharge starts burning. After that, the voltage and discharge current or repetition frequency, duration, amplitude, duty cycle and pulse shape required to obtain titanium powder with a given dispersion are set between the electrodes. The process of obtaining titanium powder is carried out until the discharge burning stops. The resumption of the process or its maintenance is carried out by automatically or manually approaching the electrodes to each other, while changing the polarity of the electrodes.
EFFECT: obtaining a powder with a particle size from 1 to 1000 microns, uncontaminated with hydrogen.
