FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention can be used in inorganic chemistry. Device for producing titanium carbide-based powder comprises cylindrical anode and cathode made from graphite. Cathode is made in the form of a vertical barrel, to which a dielectric holder is attached, into the threaded hole of which there is a screw connected to one end of the anode. Other end of the anode is located coaxially to cathode with possibility of longitudinal movement in cathode cavities for contact with powder mixture of carbon and titanium at the bottom of cathode. Anode and cathode are connected to DC source.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain titanium carbide-based powder in a DC arc discharge discharge, initiated in an air atmosphere without creating a depleted inert atmosphere.
