METHOD FOR GENERATOR PRODUCTION OF BISMUTH-213 THROUGH SEPARATION AND DECAY OF FRANCIUM-221 Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC G21G4/08 A61K51/00

Abstract RU 2778249 C1

FIELD: nuclear technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of nuclear technology and radiochemistry, concerns the device of an isotope generator for producing short-lived bismuth-213, which is used for alpha therapy of oncological diseases. The isotope generator consists of two chromatographic columns closed in a loop. The composition of the sorbents and the mobile phase is selected in such a way that actinium-225 and bismuth-213 are retained by the sorbent on the first column, and the intermediate short-lived radionuclide francium-221 is easily washed out. As a result of the circulation of the mobile phase in the system, francium-221 is continuously separated from actinium-225, which is formed during the movement of the solution. Bismuth-213 formed from francium-221 accumulates on the second column, while bismuth-213 remaining on the first column decays. After 2-6 hours, the chromatographic system comes to a state when bismuth-213 is in mobile equilibrium with actinium-225, but spatially separated from it: the parent radionuclide is on one column, and the daughter is on the other. Then bismuth-213 is extracted from the second column.

EFFECT: invention provides rapid production of bismuth-213 with high yield and radionuclide purity.
