FIELD: catalysts.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalyst for the selective oxidation of arabinose to arabonic acid and a method for the selective oxidation of arabinose to arabonic acid using this catalyst. The catalyst contains nanoparticles of gold and copper on a carrier aluminum oxide in the following ratio, wt.%: gold 0.1-0.5; copper 1; the carrier is the rest. The carrier is modified with chitosan, which is taken in an amount of 3-10 wt.% from alumina. The method is carried out in a stream of oxygen at a rate of 2.5 ml/min in isothermal mode in a batch reactor with shaking the reaction mixture at a temperature of 50-70°C and pH 6-9.
EFFECT: creation of an efficient catalyst for the selective oxidation of arabinose to arabic acid, which makes it possible to increase the selectivity of the process while maintaining a high conversion of carbohydrate, increase the stability of the catalyst in successive oxidation cycles, and also reduce the cost of the process by reducing the cost of the catalytic system.
