SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, in particular to neurology, and can be used to identify the risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Identification of the risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is carried out by determining blood lipids. At the same time, the level of the small dense subunit of low-density lipoproteins, the level of low-density lipoproteins, the concentration of total cholesterol, the concentration of triglycerides, the concentration of type 1 plasminogen activator inhibitor and tissue plasminogen activator, the concentration of nitric oxide, nitrite and nitrate, the concentration of asymmetric dimethylarginine, endothelin- 1, the level of monocytic chemoattractant protein-1, the level of vasculoendothelial growth factor, platelet growth factor, tumor necrosis factor, the level of interleukin-1 beta, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, lipoprotein (a), the level of adiponectin. The atherogenic potential is evaluated in points in accordance with the reference values. A value of 0-4 points indicates a low risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis, 5-11 - an average risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis, 12-21 - a high risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
EFFECT: method provides an increase in the reliability of identifying the risk of developing symptomatic carotid stenosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by assessing the totality of the most significant indicators.
