FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the analytical chemistry of elements, namely to methods for the determination of iron (III), and can be used for its determination in technological solutions, natural and technology-related waters. The method for determining iron (III) includes the preparation of a sorbent, the extraction of iron (III) from a solution by a sorbent, the conversion of iron (III) into a complex compound on the surface of the sorbent, the separation of the sorbent from the solution, the measurement of the diffuse reflection coefficient of the surface complex of iron (III) and the determination of the iron content according to a calibration schedule, while silica is used as a sorbent, successively modified with polyhexamethylene guanidine and 7-iodine-8-oxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid, and the measurement of the diffuse reflection coefficient is carried out at 600 nm.
EFFECT: reduction in the detection limit and an extension of the range of detectable concentrations.
