The lens focus is adjusted at the appropriate period of time in the frame period, setting the focus on the focal plane, and the display element is controlled in accordance with the bit sequence provided for the pixel for the period of time, wherein the bit sequence includes, for each colour, a subsequence of bits with varying significance, wherein neither the first nor the last bit in the subsequence for the corresponding colour are the most significant bit of the subsequence.

EFFECT: reduced amount of artifacts of colour and depth of focus.
