FIELD: pipeline construction.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in pipelines made of heat-insulated pipes. A shell is intended for complex protection of heat-insulated pipes, in which heat-insulating substance (2) is injected into a cylindrical space between a central conducting pipe and the shell. The shell is manufactured by a method for spiral winding of steel tape (5) with welted seam (4) connecting longitudinal sides of neighboring turns of wound steel tape (5). Welted seam (4) is made with gaps (6) between edges of steel tape (5) and an inner surface of a bend of welted seam (4). Gaps in welted seam (4) are filled with elastic hydrophobic material (7).
EFFECT: protection of pipelines from mechanical impacts during construction, and provision of hydraulic insulation of laid pipelines.
