FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of high-molecular natural compounds, namely, to a method for isolating melanin from buckwheat husks. Proposed method includes processing the husks with a 2% hydrochloric acid solution while boiling in order to remove hemicellulose and pectin; washing with water until a neutral reaction occurs; drying the husks; placing the husks in a swinging autoclave and adding a 4% sodium hydroxide solution until a 1:18–1:20 water duty is achieved; extracting melanin in the swinging autoclave at a temperature of 120°C and a pressure of 2.5 atm for two hours; separating the husks from the hydrolysate; and acidifying the hydrolysate.
EFFECT: possibility of increasing the output of the target product and lowering the costs of implementation of the process.
