SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to image encoding/decoding technologies. A method for decoding images carried out by means of decoding equipment is proposed. The method contains a stage at which a bitstream containing sufficient information is received. Next, the conversion coefficients for the current block are extracted based on the residual information. Residual samples for the current block based on conversion coefficients are extracted. Next, the restored frame is formed based on the residual samples, while the residual information contains information about the position of the last significant coefficient. At the same time, the extraction of residual samples contains the stages at which: the zeroed block for the current block is extracted; a contextual model is extracted for information about the position of the last significant coefficient based on the width or height of the current block.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of encoding/decoding images.
