FIELD: images encoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding images. The transform coefficients for the current block are obtained based on the residual information received in the bit stream. Residual discrete samples are obtained for the current block based on the obtained transform coefficients. A reconstructed frame is formed based on residual discrete samples for the current block. The current block includes a low-frequency transform coefficient region including at least one significant transform coefficient, and a region other than the low-frequency transform coefficient region including a zero transform coefficient. The residual information includes prefix information of the last significant coefficient regarding the position of the last non-zero transform coefficient among the transform coefficients for the current block. The position of the last non-zero transform coefficient is determined based on the prefix codeword associated with the last significant coefficient prefix information.
EFFECT: improving encoding efficiency.
