SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image encoding tools. Residual discrete samples are obtained for the current block. Conversion coefficients are obtained for the current block based on the residual discrete samples for the current block. The residual information associated with the conversion coefficients is encoded. The current block therein includes an area of low-frequency conversion coefficients, including at least one significant conversion coefficient, and an area other than the area of low-frequency conversion coefficients, including a zero conversion coefficient. The residual information includes the prefix information of the last significant coefficient and the suffix information of the last significant coefficient with respect to the position of the last non-zero conversion coefficient from the conversion coefficients for the current block. The position of the last non-zero conversion coefficient is based on the prefix code word and the suffix information of the last significant coefficient.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of encoding.
