FIELD: hardening.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hardening and can be used to harden the edges of steel parts made of steel and intended for cutting various materials. The method for laser hardening of the working surfaces of the edges of the cutting tool includes processing the surfaces of the edges with a laser beam focused in such a way that the diameter of its spot is from 0.3 to 3 mm, which is moved at a speed of up to 21.5 m/s during local heating and cooling of the surface for continuous hardening, while surface treatment uses a fiber laser source with a power of 700 to 10,000 W and a scanning optical system with a variable focal length.
EFFECT: increased reliability and service life of the cutting tool.
