FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the compositions of mixtures and alloys used for the modification and microalloying of iron-carbon melts. The modifier contains at least one alloy on a silicon or iron base, modified with ultrafine particles of compounds of the transition metal of group IV-V of the Periodic system (Me) and nitrogen (N) of non-stoichiometric composition in an amount that provides the mass ratio of the transition metal (Me) to nitrogen (N) equal to 5.0-35.0.
EFFECT: invention provides formation and uniform distribution of ultradisperse inoculating particles of non-stoichiometric compounds of Me and nitrogen (N) in the specified mass ratio throughout the melt volume, while the formation of ultradisperse modifying particles during melt processing eliminates their coagulation and allows particles to be evenly distributed throughout the melt volume, providing high modifying effect.
