FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the compositions of mixtures and alloys used for the modification and microalloying of iron-carbon melts. The modifier contains an alloy powder containing at least one transition metal of the IV-V group of the periodic system (Me) and a nitriding agent powder in an amount providing a mass ratio of the transition metal (Me) to nitrogen (N) equal to 5.0–35.0, as well as a flux-forming mixture. The resulting mixture of powders is used as a filler for powder wire. In addition, the formation of ultrafine modifying particles during the processing of the melt eliminates their coagulation and makes it possible for the particles to be evenly distributed over the entire volume of the melt, which ensures high modifying effect.
EFFECT: invention provides the formation and uniform distribution over the entire volume of the melt of ultrafine inoculating particles of non–stoichiometric compounds of Me and nitrogen (N) in the specified mass ratio of Me/N equal to 5.0-35.0.
