FIELD: naphtha hydrotreatment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the hydrotreatment of naphtha, including the conversion of organic sulfur to hydrogen sulfide in a stream of naphtha in a hydrotreatment reactor; separating the hydrotreated naphtha stream in the light ends stripper into a light ends stripper overhead stream and a light ends stripper bottoms stream; transferring at least a portion of the light ends stripper bottoms stream to an adsorber for protection against sulfur compounds; providing a bypass line around the adsorber to protect against sulfur compounds; continuously controlling the light ends stripper bottoms flow through the sour adsorber and the light ends stripper bottoms flow through the bypass line based on the desired bypass flow fraction to match the reduced sulfur content of the naphtha; combining a light ends stripper bottoms stream through a sour adsorber and a light ends stripper bottoms stream through a bypass line to form a reduced sulfur naphtha product stream.
EFFECT: maintaining a target sulfur level in the naphtha hydrotreater product (e.g., less than 0.5-1.0 ppm wt.), removing less than all of the sulfur, maximizing the life of the adsorbent for protection against sulfur compounds, and providing smooth control of the fraction of the stream passing through the adsorbent for protection against sulfur compounds.
