FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: proposed is a method for obtaining a stable methanotrophic association for producing feed protein on methane, including two-stage cultivation of a natural sample, wherein activated sludge or sediment of freshwater water bodies is used as said sample, in a 1,5 l fermenter with a mineral medium in a volume of 1 l, for a total of several weeks to one month: the first stage is cumulative growth until the turbidity of the culture reaches an optical density OD600 of 0.5 to 4; the second stage is a flow cultivation mode with a flow rate of 0.05 h-1, followed by raising the flow rate in steps of 0.05 h-1 to a value of 0.2 h-1, and further cultivation for 14 to 40 days with an average optical density OD600 of 2.5 to 3.

EFFECT: production of a steadily growing methanotrophic bacterial association with stable metabolic connections between the components thereof with predominating methanotrophic producer strains and a lower proportion of non-methanotrophic specimen through the use of a wide variety of bacteria inhabiting natural or anthropogenic habitats.
