METHOD FOR DIAGNOSTICS OF EXUDATIVE OTITIS MEDIA Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B6/03

Abstract RU 2785738 C1

FIELD: medicine; otorhinolaryngology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to the field of otorhinolaryngology; it can be used for diagnostics of exudative otitis media. OCT data is recorded from both the area of the external auditory canal and the tympanic cavity. During calculations based on received OCT data, histograms of brightness distribution are built for the tympanic cavity (HISTTC) and for the area of the external auditory canal (HISTAC) in the range from zero to the maximum value of brightness Bmax, used in a palette of OCT image. For each HISTTC and HISTAC histogram, assessed brightness MTC and MAC, positions of centers CTC and CAC, respectively, as well as a value of a semi-width SAC are calculated. The first characteristics indicator EPres is calculated as the ratio of the difference of assessed brightness MTC and MAC to the value of the semi-width SAC of HISTAC histogram. The second characteristic indicator ECond is calculated as the ratio of the difference of positions of centers CTC and CAC to the value of the semi-width SAC of HISTAC histogram. The value of the first characteristic indicator EPres is compared with a reference value RefPres = 1, and if EPres > RefPres, a conclusion is made on the presence of exudate in the tympanic cavity. Exudate viscosity is assessed by comparison of the value of the second characteristic indicator ECond with a reference value RefCond = 1. If ECond > RefCond, a conclusion is made on high exudate viscosity. If ECond < RefCond, a conclusion is made on low exudate viscosity. At the same time, assessed brightness MTC and MAC are determined as maximum values of brightness for each HISTTC and HISTAC histogram, respectively. Positions of centers CTC and CAC are determined by calculation of a median for each HISTTC and HISTAC histogram, respectively.

EFFECT: method provides for objective and non-invasive detection and assessment of exudate in the tympanic cavity due to determination of characteristic indicators based on OCT data of the area of the external auditory canal and the tympanic cavity.
