FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing vinyl chloride by thermocatalytic cleavage of 1,2-dichloroethane, wherein the heat required for thermal cleavage is supplied via a liquid or condensed heat carrier, wherein the heat carrier (4) is heated with electricity at least episodically. The method is characterised by at least one first heating apparatus (6) powered by burning at least one fuel and, additionally, at least one second heating apparatus (7) powered by electricity being used to heat the liquid heat carrier, wherein the heat carrier constitutes mineral oil, synthetic thermal oil, silicone oil, or molten salt, and the thermal cleavage of 1,2-dichloroethane is executed as thermocatalytic cleavage in a temperature range from 200 to 400 °C. The invention also relates to an apparatus.
EFFECT: possibility of reducing the maintenance costs, significantly lowering the amount of CO2 emissions and ensuring the possibility of electrical control.
